In 1998, to commemorate the 175th Anniversary of the Texas Rangers, Sr. Captain Bruce Casteel and DPS Director, Col. Dudley M. Thomas, authorized an official commemorative badge.  The badges were designed and manufactured by Ranger badge maker David W. Alford of Houston.

The open run, silver cinco peso “Ranger” version of this commemorative was released for public sale in 1998 and is sold-out.  However, the entire limited edition run of 175 24K gold-plated “Captain’s” versions of these badges, although authorized, were not produced until September 2005 when the Former Texas Rangers Foundation acquired the rights to the entire inventory of all 175 of these gold plated badges and ordered their production.  Now, for the first time, these 175th Anniversary Commemoratives are available exclusively to the members and supporters of the Former Texas Rangers Foundation.

This authentic Texas Ranger Commemorative badge is presented in a museum-quality, gold wood, triple mat case of blue suede with a gold plate noting the serial number of the badge and the official 175th birthday of the Rangers-
August 5, 1998.  It is accompanied by a letter from Former Texas Rangers Foundation President Sgt. Joe Davis, Texas Rangers (ret.), and Former Texas Rangers Association President Captain Dan North, Texas Rangers (ret.), as well as an affidavit from David Alford authenticating each badge by serial number.
